SOUTH BEND - Lorraine J. Jackowiak, 88, passed away Monday, August 10, 2015, in her home surrounded by her family. Lorraine was born February 24, 1927, in South Bend, to the late Frank and Jane (Nowicki) Klimek. On April 21, 1951, in Holy Cross Catholic Church, Lorraine married Louis Jackowiak, who preceded her in death on April 5, 1985. Lorraine was also preceded in death by her friend, Elsie Malicki. Survivors of Lorraine include her children, Thomas R. (Patricia) Jackowiak, Linda S. (David) Kush, both of South Bend; granddaughter, Carrie Kush of Lakeland, FL; grandson, Kevin Kush (Bailey Gottschalk) of Indianapolis, IN; and many cousins. Lorraine retired in 1994 from Target after 16 years. She was a parishioner of Holy Cross Catholic Church and was a member of the Harvest House and Rosary Society at St. Stanislaus B&M. Lorraine also was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary #357, Polish Women's Alliance Group #305, Golden Clusters of St. Hedwig and AARP. Lorraine loved nature, fishing, the outdoors and gardening. She also enjoyed sewing and crafting, cooking, especially Polish Food, taking bus trips to the Casino, watching the Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy, occasional reunions with cousins, visiting Amish Acres and The Blueberry Festival, country line dancing and Polka dancing. The family would like to express a special "Thank You" to all who helped in Lorraine's care: Dr. Michael Helms of Northwest Family Medicine; her nurses, Abby and David; health care aide, Kenya; social worker, Bob; and to all the staff at Center for Hospice; as well as Alick Medical Supply. Visitation for Lorraine is 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm, Friday, August 14, 2015, in ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Rd., with a Rosary to be prayed. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:00 pm. Saturday, August 15, 2015, in Holy Cross Catholic Church. Entombment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery.
