Beulah I. Patnaude
nee Biddle
July 18, 1925 ~ December 15, 2012
Beulah Irene “Be” Patnaude of South Bend passed peacefully at home into the loving hands of God on Saturday, December 15, 2012. “Be” was born on July 18, 1925 in Greenhill, Indiana to Oliver and Mae (Williams) Biddle, who preceded her in death. On December 26, 1944 in Fowler, Indiana she married the love of her life, Raymond F. Patnaude, Sr. They have enjoyed 67 memorable years together. Beulah graduated from Fowler High School, Tobias Beauty College in South Bend, Indiana and the Famous Artist and Fine Arts Painting School in Westport, Connecticut. In 1946 Beulah and Raymond became owners of McDonald Studio where she served as vice president, receptionist and painted many senior portraits until her retirement in 1990. A devout Catholic she attended Mass daily. She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church for more than 65 years. “Be” was also an active member in the Holy Family Altar and Rosary Society, Knights of Columbus Wives 533, Saint John’s Catholic Church Rosary makers, the Golden Clusters, Saint Joseph High School Ladies, the Elks Ladies, Indiana Professional Photographers and the Daguerre Club. Beulah enjoyed genealogy and with her younger brother Rupert Biddle compiled books on the Biddle, Williams and Patnaude family history. She enjoyed traveling with her husband and family. They made annual trips to Mackinac Island where many unforgettable memories were made. “Be” was an accomplished artist and shared her art with dear family and friends. At an early age she began collecting items which “spoke” to her and became an unintentional lifelong hobby. She was continually fascinated how her Five & Dime store finds brought pleasant memories years later. “Be” not only had an eye for antiques she was always in the know about fashion, those who knew her, knew of her love of hats and accessories. Raymond and Beulah shared a love of the theater and enjoyed attending as frequently as possible. They also are avid Notre Dame Fans who held season tickets for over 30 years. They regularly attended football, basketball and hockey games. Her family was most important to her, she was able to guide, love, support and respect each of them as individuals. She had an amazing unique relationship with everyone she knew. Beulah was a loving, giving, and dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend who will be greatly missed. Survivors include her loving husband Raymond Patnaude, Sr; her four sons, Raymond (Jan) Patnaude, Jr. of South Bend, David (Annie) Patnaude of Buchanan, Philip (Audra) Patnaude of Granger, and Christopher (Pam) Patnaude of Downers Grove, IL.; daughter, Paulette (George) Lukas of Columbus, IN; twelve wonderful grandchildren, Stacie (Dan) Fedewa, Raymond (Annie) Patnaude, III, Courtney Patnaude, Laura Kelley, Susan Gillespie, Eric Lukas, Bryan Patnaude, Amy (Ryan) Grayson, Lucy Patnaude, Claire Patnaude, Remington Patnaude, and Kaetlyn Patnaude and 13 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two brothers, William Biddle of Attica, IN, and Rupert Biddle of St. Louis, MO. She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Louise Talbott and Vera Cooper; and four brothers, Ivan, Thurman, Louis Biddle and Frankie Beedle. Visitation for Beulah will be held Tuesday, December 18, 2012 from 4pm to 8pm in ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Rd. where a Rosary will be prayed at 4:30pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00am Wednesday, December 19, 2012 in Holy Family Catholic Church. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery.
