Rose Eugenia "Genie" Arata, 96, of Lincoln Way West, Osceola passed away at 10:38 p.m., Thursday, July 31, in Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center, Mishawaka after an illness. "Genie" was born on Dec. 28, 1906, in South Bend, as the daughter of the late Charles and Hazel (Denslow) Greenwood. She was also preceded in death by one daughter, Lois Jean Arata; three grand children, John Eric Hostetler, Michele Arata Essington and Stephen Gerard Stuart; two sisters, Mary Divine and Eva Ziesenhene; and two brothers, Jennings and Loren Greenwood. On May 30, 1934, in St. Matthew Catholic Church, South Bend, as the former Rose Eugenia Greenwood, she married Joseph Warren Arata. He survives along with six daughters, Rose Marie (Ronald) Stuart of Mishawaka, Marianne Arata of South Bend, Janet (Donald) De Cocker of Mishawaka, Kathleen (Lawrence) Hostetler of Mishawaka, Ruthanne "Dolly" Donahue of Osceola and Frances Sandefur of Cassopolis, Mich.; one son, Timothy (Robyne) Arata of Venice, Fla.; two sisters, Thelma Greenwood of South Bend and Winifred (Robert) Thompson of Osceola; two sisters-in-law, Thelma (Loren) Greenwood of South Bend and Anita (Jennings) Greenwood of South Bend; 50 grandchildren; and 83 great grandchildren; and 2 great-great grandchildren. "Genie" was a charter member of Queen of Peace Parish, worked many years on the Bishop's Oversees Clothing Drive and was an organizer and volunteer for the parish funeral dinners. She will be remember by her friends and family for her wonderful "Sweet Rolls" and for the many cakes she baked for the church bake sales. A faithful wife and mother and proud Grandmother and Great Grand Mother. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 4, in Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th Street, Mishawaka. Where a Vigil Service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday Aug. 5, in Queen of Peace Catholic Church, Mishawaka, with Rev. Richard P. Hire officiating. Burial will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens Osceola. Memorial contributions may be made to Queen of Peace Catholic Church, 4508 Vistula Road Mishawaka, IN 46544.
