SOUTH BEND - Carl R. Gorbitz, Jr., 63, passed away on Tuesday, September 19, 2017, in the Hospice House of St. Joseph County. Carl was born March 9, 1954, in South Bend, to the late Carl and Martha (Mills) Gorbitz, Sr. On October 18, 1980, in South Bend, Carl married the love of his life, Karen (Stefaniak) Gorbitz; she survives along with his brother, Ed Gorbitz of South Bend; nephews, Jeremy & Jason Gorbitz of South Bend; nieces, Jessica (William) Wojtas of Phoenix, AZ, Brianne & Meghanne Hickey of Casselberry, FL; sister/brother-in-law, Michele (Donald) Hickey of Winter Springs, FL; and Little Man, Casper, his doggie. Carl was employed with South Bend Toy, Redi-Froz, Osthimer Inc., Real Services, Serv Pro, and the South Bend Tribune. Coaching Babe Ruth Little League was a true joy and he loved teaching kids. He was a member of the AAA Credit Union Supervisory Committee for over 25 years, Teamsters Union, and the Printers Union. Carl enjoyed anything that had to do with Ghosts and Monsters, and listening to the radio show Coast to Coast. He was a big Green Bay Packers, Notre Dame, and Ohio State football fan. Carl most enjoyed his vacations to Hawaii and Florida. Dancing, music and caring for injured wildlife were favorite activities he enjoyed with his wife. The family would like extend their heartfelt appreciation to his “Angels,” the nurses, doctors, caretakers, friends and family for the care and love given to Carl. Visitation for Carl will take place from 2:00 pm to 8:00 pm Saturday, September 23, 2017, in ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Rd. A Funeral Ceremony will be held at 12:00 pm Sunday, September 24, 2017, in the Funeral Home Chapel, with visitation one hour prior. Memorial contributions may be made to the Center for Hospice Care, 501 Comfort Place, Mishawaka, IN 46545; Pet Refuge, 4626 S. Burnett Dr. South Bend, IN 46614; or any Wild Life Organization.
