Virginia L. "Lucie" (Cooper) Gushwa Feb. 6, 1930 - June 25, 2015 SOUTH BEND - Lucie Gushwa, 85, of South Bend, IN, passed away on Thursday, June 25, 2015, in Memorial Hospital. Lucie was born on February 6, 1930, in Leiters Ford, IN, to the late Otto and LuBella (Hudkins) Cooper. On July 18, 1947, in Mishawaka, IN, she was married to her husband, Robert Gushwa, who survives. Also surviving are their children, Cindy Hostetler of South Bend, IN, Doug Gushwa of Niles, MI, Robert Gushwa Jr. of Colorado, Kimberly (Larry) Brandow of Jackson, MI, and Kenneth Gushwa of Harlingen, TX; 11 grandchildren, 12 great-grand-children and 2 great-great-grandchildren. Lucie was preceded in death by her daughter, Brenda Fischer; grandchild, Michael Gushwa; and great-granddaughter, Amanda Mitchell. Lucie was the youngest of 15 children; she was preceded in death by all of her siblings. Lucie was a camp fire and Awana Club leader. She loved her family, and enjoyed gardening. Visitation will be held on Monday, June 29, 2015, from 11-1 pm in Gospel Center Missionary Church, 930 S. 30th St., South Bend, IN 46615. A funeral service will begin at 1 pm. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery. Bubb Funeral Chapel is handling the arrangements.
