SOUTH BEND - Eileen Hildegarde Rybicki, 89, of South Bend, died at 3:15 PM on Friday, October 14, at Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center, Mishawaka. Eileen was born on May 3, 1922, in South Bend, to Zygmunt Jozef and Catherine (Blaszczak) Fisher, and remained a lifelong area resident except for two years when she resided in Fort Wayne, Indiana, prior to returning to South Bend in 2009. Her parents, her stepfather, Boleslaus (Bill) Fisher, her sister, Regina Wisniewski, her brother, Clement Fisher, as well as her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Alex and Helen (Niespo) Rybicki, preceded her in death. On October 3, 1942, at Saint Casimir Church, she married Quinlen Rybicki, who died August 24, 1987. Always active in church and civic events, she taught high school religious education classes for many years at Holy Family Parish. She also was a Cub Scout and Camp Fire Girl leader, a softball coach at Matthys Little League, as well as enjoying many years at Howard Park Senior Center in South Bend and Battell Center in Mishawaka. In 1990 she earned her G.E.D. through the Forever Learning Institute. Prior to moving to Fort Wayne in 2007, she was a member of Harvest House and the Golden Cluster. On October 5th, she was recognized for 60 years of continuous membership in the American Legion Auxiliary Unit #357. While enjoying her role as a "married lady with children," Eileen worked part-time outside the home over the years in several different positions, retiring from Sears in 1986. She is survived by a daughter, Mary Anne Peters, and a son, Rev. Daryl Rybicki, both of South Bend. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Alex Peters, Lisa Jones, Brandon Jones and Brittney Jones; as well as eight great-grandchildren, Xavier, Alex, Jazlynn, Jayden, Da'viea, Braylen, Ava and Malia; and several nieces and nephews. Visitation will take place from 1:00-8:00 PM Tuesday and from 9:30-11:30 AM Wednesday at the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, with a Rosary prayed at 5:00 PM Tuesday. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12 noon Wednesday at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 2801 Corpus Christi Drive. Cremation will follow, with committal at Saint Joseph Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made for Masses, to South Side Baptist Church (1130 E. Jackson Road, South Bend, 46614), to Corpus Christi Catholic Church (2822 Corpus Christi Drive, South Bend, 46628) or to any charity of the donor's choice.
