SOUTH BEND - Stanley E. (Gene) Zawacki, 72, of South Bend, Indiana, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, January 1, 2009. He is survived by a daughter, Valerie (Jim) LaCluyse; two grandchildren, Tony and Haley LaCluyse; a great-grandson, Remington; his best friend and significant other of 14 years, Norma Wesley; her extended family; and his brothers, Leonard and Richard Zawacki. Stanley was preceded in death by a sister Barb and a daughter Deborah.
Stanley was a member of the American Legion Post 284, the Crumstown Conservation Club and various other organizations. He was a Veteran of the Armed Services; a member of the Operations Engineers local 150, having worked as a heavy equipment operator for 40 years, many with Walsh and Kelly Inc., and had delivered oil for 10 years with Waggoner's Oil Company. He was also an avid bowler for 50 years and enjoyed working outside in the yard. He was a generous person and will be greatly missed. Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 & 6 to 8 PM Sunday, January 4, in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, Indiana. Funeral Services will be held at 1 PM Monday, January 5, in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, with burial to follow in St. Joseph Cemetery with military honors.
