SOUTH BEND - Thomas Albert Hagedorn, 82, a lifelong resident of South Bend, passed away peacefully at 8:55 p.m. Monday, February 8, 2016, at his daughter's home. He was born July 4, 1933, in South Bend, to the late Albert W. & Ilba (Cato) Hagedorn. On February 13, 1988, in South Bend, he was united in marriage to Betty J. Manchow. They have enjoyed 28 wonderful years together. He is survived by his loving wife, Betty; five daughters, Carol Ann Heilman of South Bend, Elizabeth Hagedorn of Ohio, Michelle (Aaron) Walczewski of South Bend, Melissa M. (Jason) Grothaus of Chandler, AZ, and Stephanie Ann (Harland) Stanley of Louisville, KY; and son, Richard A. (Marie) Kruk of South Bend. He is also survived by several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; three sisters, Ellen A. (Jack) Loutzenhiser of Mishawaka, Rose M. Davis of South Bend and Jackie Brabham of Mishawaka; and two brothers, Edmund L. Hagedorn and Paul “Buzz” Hagedorn, both of South Bend; as well as many nieces and nephews. Tom was preceded in death by his son, Tommy Hagedorn, on Sept. 30, 2013, and a brother, William N. Hagedorn, on May 2, 2015. Tom retired in 1982 from the Bendix Corp. where he worked as a Press Operator. He also had worked with the Honda Corp. as well. Following retirement, he worked as a bartender with The Brig Inn and Ewing Café. He was a member of the South Bend Elks #235, St. Joseph Young Men's Society, and United Auto Workers Local #9. He enjoyed playing golf, working crossword puzzles, and watching Gospel videos. Services celebrating the life of Tom Hagedorn will be at noon Saturday, Feb. 13, at the Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel, 3718 South Michigan Street, South Bend. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until service time Saturday at the funeral home. Contributions in memory of Mr. Hagedorn may be offered to Memorial Children's Hospital of South Bend, 615 North Michigan Street, South Bend, IN 46601.
