Nov. 29, 1922 - Nov. 18, 2014
SOUTH BEND - Frances "Frankie" Ciesielski, 91, passed away on Tuesday, November 18, 2014, at 7:20 am in The Arbors at Southfield Village in the presence of her loving caregiver, Coretta. Frances was born Nov. 29, 1922, in South Bend, IN, to the late Michael and Mary Ann (Grzadziela) Ciesielski. Frances was preceded in death by her sisters, Bernice Siporski, Stella O'Donnell, Valentina Estes & Harriet Adkins; brothers, Sylvester, Joseph, Vincent & Michael; sisters-in-law, Violet & Irene Ciesielski; brothers-in-law, Ray Siporski, Freeman O'Donnell, Harold Estes & Bryce Adkins; & longtime friend in California - like sisters - Faye Detwiler. Frances is survived by her nieces, Candyce Discavage of South Bend, IN, Kerry Estes (Hartmut Derendorf) of Gainesville, FL, & Angela (Walter) Wiltfong of South Bend, IN; nephews, R. Nicholas Manley-Ciesielski of Los Angeles, CA, Dan (Gertrudys) Adkins of Fruit Heights, UT, & Tom Adkins of UT; along with great- and great-great-nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her very close and dear friends, John and Betty Pendl of South Bend, IN, & Gail Killingsworth of Michigan City, IN. John and Frankie were friends for more than 70 years. She always thought of him as her brother. If it was ok with John, it was ok with Frankie. Betty was a very caring friend, always there to help whenever needed. Gail and Frankie became friends after Frankie retired and moved home to South Bend in the early '90s. Frankie was like a second mom to Gail and they talked every day. Frankie was a friend to many and will be greatly missed. Frankie graduated from New Carlisle High School in 1940. She began her career in photo finishing in the mid '40s at Ault's Camera Shop in downtown South Bend. It was there that she worked with John's sister Virginia and became very close to the Pendl family. Frankie moved to California in the mid '50s where she spent the next 40 years creating precious memories through pictures. She retired from Fox Photo in Los Angeles, CA, in 1988. Frankie enjoyed sports in her younger years-- softball, golf & bowling. She also liked to garden. She was more at home pulling weeds than in the kitchen. Frankie was loved and cared for by many loving hands. The family would like to sincerely thank Coretta, Danielle, and all the caregivers from Senior1Care for their kindness and loving service. Also, our sincere thanks are extended to the caregivers from Hospice and The Arbors at Southfield Village. There will be no visitation or services per Frankie's wishes. She will be cremated and a private committal service will occur at a later date. Memorial donations may be made in Frances' name to Hospice Foundation, 501 Comfort Place, Mishawaka, IN 46545-5234. St. Joseph Funeral Home, 824 S. Mayflower Rd., is assisting the family. Condolences to the family may be made at www.sjfh.net. Published in South Bend Tribune on Nov. 23, 2014
