GRANGER - Margaret Ann Shafer, 84, formerly of North Kaley Street, South Bend, Indiana, passed away 8:00 a.m. Sunday, December 21, 2014 in her daughter's home. Margaret was born on August 15, 1930 in South Bend to Joseph and Elizabeth (Soltesz) Fodor, and was a lifelong resident. She retired in January 1996 from RACO, where she was employed for 20 years. On November 23, 1950, in St. Joseph Church, South Bend, Indiana, she married Edward H. "Bud" Shafer, who preceded her in death on June 25, 2001. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Helen Krauser; and two brothers, Joseph and William Fodor. Margaret is survived by her daughter, Charlotte A. (Doug) Defebaugh of Granger, Indiana; her son, Billy (Pam) Shafer of Mishawaka, Indiana; two grandchildren, Cory E. (Ashley) Defebaugh and Sarah E. (Peter) Svetanoff; and three great-grandchildren, Quinton, Aidan, and Mason. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, December 27, 2014 in St. Pius X Church. Burial will follow in Riverview Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 2 until 8 p.m. Friday in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, where a Vigil Service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Friends may also visit with the family from 9:00 until 9:45 a.m. Saturday in St. Pius X Church. Margaret attended St. Joseph Grade school and graduated from Central High School in 1948, where she met her husband during her senior year. She was a charter member of St. John the Baptist Church and Altar and Rosary Society. She was also a member of the Christ Child Society. Margaret was an avid sports fan. She especially enjoyed Notre Dame football and basketball. She also enjoyed watching the Wheel of Fortune. Margaret loved to spend time with her family and grandchildren. The family wishes to thank the Center for Hospice Care, especially, Darlene and Nikki.
