SOUTH BEND - Vel B. Sikorski, 83, of South Bend, Indiana passed away Monday, July 15, 2013. Vel was born on June 29, 1930 in South Bend to Joseph and Mary (Horvath) Bokon, Sr. and was a lifelong resident. She had been employed at Studebakers and Bendix. She had also been a Bus Driver for 16 years with South Bend Community School Corporation and an Avon Rep. On September 3, 1949 she married Eugene W. Sikorski, who preceded her in death on January 5, 1982. Also preceding her in death were her parents; one sister, Mary Dominiak; and three brothers, Joe, Bill, and Rudy Bokon. Survivors include her daughter, Mary Sue (Greg) Violette; three sons, Tom (Kris) Sikorski, Denis Sikorski, and Larry (Melody) Sikorski; 12 grandchildren, Melissa (Brian) Wilson, Jeffrey (Erin) Sikorski, Beth (Todd) Lux, Tracy Smith, Kristen (Kasey Conklin) Sikorski, Serena Sikorski, Autum Sikorski, Amber Violette, Pat (Danielle) Violette, Amy Violette, Kevin Violette, and Cain Smith; six great-grandchildren, Cyle Sikorski, Kyan Wilson, Kellen Sikorski, Thomas Lux, Isabelle Violette, and Kogan Conklin; two sisters, Irene Ziolkowski and Lillian (Joe) Grzezinski; and brother-in-law, Robert Sikorski. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, July 19, 2013 in St. Stanislaus Kostka Church. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 until 8 p.m. Thursday in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, where a parish rosary will be prayed at 2:30 p.m. and for one hour prior to the Mass on Friday in the Church. Vel was a member of St. Stanislaus Parish, Altar and Rosary Society, and a Eucharistic Minister. Vel was a member of the Golden Cluster. She was also a past President and Secretary of Club 53. Vel was a member of the Michiana Polka Mass Singers and a coordinator for the retired Policemans wives and widows luncheon as well as the "Lydick Kids" luncheons (The group has been together since 1936 when they met in kindergarten).
