LAPORTE - Mrs. Loretta M. Sauer, 99, of LaPorte, passed away on July 25, 2014, at Hamilton Grove Nursing Home. She was born on June 8, 1915, in Ethan, South Dakota, to Fred and Annie (Erpenbach) Hohn. She had lived in the area for 38 years, coming from North Judson. She was a self-employed restaurant owner. On October 1, 1935, in Fox Holm, South Dakota, she married Alphonse Sauer, who preceded her on January 13, 1978. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, a member of the Rosary Sodality, business girls, manager of the Curiosisty shop, and loved to play canasta at the Swanson Center. She leaves 1 daughter, Carol (Frank) Davis of New Carlisle, IN; 2 sons, Daniel (Peggy) Sauer of Crown Point, IN, and Lester (Terry) Sauer of Valparaiso, IN; 5 grandchildren, 2 step-grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. She was preceded by her parents, husband, daughter, Linda Sauer, 5 brothers and 1 sister. The Funeral Mass will be on Tuesday at 10:30 A.M. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, with Rev. Eduardo Malagon officiating. The visitation will be on Tuesday from 8:30-10:00 A.M. at the Essling Funeral Home. Burial will follow the Mass at Pine Lake Cemetery. The family would like to thank the nurses and aides of Hamilton Grove for the care they gave Loretta. Memorial contributions may be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society.
