Marjorie M Grattenthaler, 88, passed away peacefully Sunday morning at West Bend Nursing Home in South Bend. She was born In Chesterton IN to Clara (Yagelski) and George Rohde. On March 26, 1955 she married Lawrence Grattenthaler in Michigan City, IN which is where they made their home. Larry died in 2008 after 53 years of marriage. Marjorie worked at Majerek’s Hallmark in Michigan City for 20+ years retiring as store manager. In her younger years Marjorie enjoyed water skiing, swimming and square dancing with the Star Righters; by far Marj’s greatest happiness in life was spending time with her family. She spent many summers camping at the lake at Foxwoods Hills with Mike, Shawn and Cindy when they were younger; later in life she looked forward to going to the lake to spend time with her children, grandchildren and extended family. Marjorie also enjoyed parties, family gatherings, board games, cards, bingo and doing jigsaw puzzles-and she sure loved watching the Chicago Bulls! Marjorie’s heart was broken in 2004 when her beloved daughter and best friend Cindy (David) Swan passed away. It must have been quite a reunion to see her loved ones again in heaven! Surviving children are Michael (Stacy) Grattenthaler of Mishawaka, Shawn (Ellen) Grattenthaler of Elkhart and David (Sally) Swan of Westville. Also surviving are grandchildren Amber Gardner, Jeramie and Nathan Grattenthaler, Melissa Swan-Hackler and Shaun Baker, Krista and Kellie Hennings, Julius Henderson, Jimmy Mokol and Emily Gardenhire. Surviving great grandchildren are Jay and Corey Gardner, Brendan Baker, Kamari and Kamitri Hennings, Zeke Henderson, Tiara Scott, Journey, Aeris, Destiny and Madylin Hackler, Jase Mokol and Penny Gardenhire. Marjorie is also survived by sisters Beverly Milcarek and Barbara (Richard) Hahn both of Michigan City. A brother and sister in-law, George and Karen Rohde and brother in-law, Carl Milcarek, preceded her in death. Several nieces and nephews also survive. A Celebration of Life will take place on March 26th from 1-4 PM at the Moose Lodge, 2107 Welnetz Rd, Trail Creek, IN 46360. Palmer Funeral Homes-Bubb Chapel, 3910 N. Main Street, Mishawaka, IN 46545 is assisting the family with arrangements.
