Thomas Joseph Flatt, 83, of Mishawaka, passed away of Saturday February 11, 2023, in Southfield Village South Bend.Thomas was born on January 26, 1940, in West Allis, Wisconsin as the son of Ross and Emma (Fulkerson) Flatt. Tom was preceded in death by his parents and one son, Ronald Flatt on February 10, 2019; two sisters, JoAnn Poole and Sally Robertson; and a brother, Robert Flatt. On December 20, 1960, He married the former Nancy De Vlieger. Tom is survived by his wife of 62 years, Nancy; their children, William “Bill” (Dawn) Flatt, James, and Steven Flatt, and Lisa Gordon who was like a daughter to him; six grandchildren, Ryan (Amanda) Flatt, Joseph (Jacquelyn) Flatt, Nicholas Flatt, Monica, Flatt, Katherine Flatt, and Angela Flatt; and daughter in law, Diane. Tom was the owner of HS Altman Irrigation in South Bend. He was an avid Cubs Fan and Indiana University Sports Fan, but want he enjoyed the most was spending time with his family and grandchildren. Thank you for always doing for your kids. Season football tickets at Tupper Field to watch Ron and I play football. First ever President of the Mishawaka wrestling club and taking us all over the state so we can wrestle. President for several years of Southwest Little league and coach so your kids and all the neighborhood kids had a great, safe park to play at in the summer. Area 2 director and then St. Joseph County Special Olympics County Coordinator so your special son and all of his friends had a sports program like everyone else. Sending Bill to basketball camp for 4 years so he can become…OK that one did not work well but it was for your kid. Working in the booth at Jackson Field for football games for Riley with all of us. Announcing the now called “Al Smith Invite” for its first 25 years and announcing the Riley B-team invite for many years. Many would have not done that much but you did, and it was always for your kids. Now it is time to be pain free. Thank you for all of this and so much more, Dad. Time to go fishing with Grandpa Flatt, Grandpa Flyer, Ron and run a line for Sammy. You will be missed. Visitation will be on Thursday February 16th from 5:00 - 8:00 pm in Hahn Funeral Home 505 W. 8th Street Mishawaka.
