SOUTH BEND - James Louis Duxbury died peacefully at Memorial Hospital this past Saturday in the company of his wife and family.
Son of James Duxbury and Annie Greenhalgh (Duxbury) of York, England. “Bud,” as he was commonly referred to, was born in Cambridge, MA, on 9 Feb. 1931. He is survived by one sibling, Ms Lorraine Stout living in South Bend, IN. He enjoyed boxing and was a member of the Golden Gloves boxing association. He served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Leyte (CVS-32) from 1951-1954 as a torpedoman's mate. While serving he was an accomplished swimmer, receiving a commendation and awards for exceptional performance in the Atlantic Fleet Championship in 1952. He was a lifetime member of Veterans of Foreign Wars. He married Theresa Baldoni of Mishawaka in 1952 and they were married for 65 years. The couple had five children: Chatherine DeCleene, Jennifer Nelson-Camp, Sandra Gates, William Duxbury and Kenneth Duxbury. He was blessed to have twelve grandchildren and two great-gandchildren. Bud enjoyed rabbit hunting, fresh water fishing, mushrooming, and he was an avid reader of war history and history in general. A gathering for Bud will take place on Saturday, March 11, from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. at the Bubb Funeral Chapel, 3910 N. Main Street, Mishawaka, where V.F.W. Post #360 will perform military honors at 3:00 p.m. Cremation will take place with a private burial to follow at a later date. Family requests no flowers.
