Ernest Eugene “Ernie” Chorba, 64, of Hess Road in Edwardsburg, died Wednesday, May 18, 2011 at Memorial Hospital in South Bend, following a brief illness. He was born on Dec. 17, 1946 in Dowagiac to Joseph and Mary (Smeltzer) Chorba, Sr. He lived in this area most of his life and lived for several years in Luther, Mich. He was employed as a truck driver for his entire career. Ernie was a former member of the Sons of the American Legion Post 365 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars, both in Edwardsburg and of the Edwardsburg Conservation Club. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and hunting for mushrooms; and enjoyed the fellowship of others who enjoy the outdoors. He was first married to Diane (Wilken) who preceded him in death in 1979. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Kama Renee Chorba in 1974; his father Joseph in 2007 and by his sister, Loree Roberts in 2002. On Dec. 19, 1995 in Carson City, Mich., he married Marilyn (Nagy), who survives. Also surviving are his daughter, Victoria Presswood of Niles; grandchildren Clayburn (Emily) Frye, Matthew and Wyatt McAllister; great-grandson Gunner William Frye; step-children Tony Cox and Vince Nagy, both of Florida; step-grandchildren Dustin Nagy, Sara and Ashley Cox, David and Daniel Troxell; brother Joseph (Phyllis) Chorba, Jr. of Dowagiac and several nieces and nephews.
The family of Ernest Chorba will receive relatives and friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Halbritter Funeral Home in Niles. Committal services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Luther Cemetery
