RENO, NV - Elmer E. Boda, 86, died on August 28, 2012, at the VA Hospital in Reno, NV, following a lingering illness. He was born on June 25, 1926, to Steve and Lena (Hesler) Boda in South Bend, Indiana. Elmer enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1944, proudly serving in the Pacific theater of Operations during World War II aboard the destroyer USS King. He was an avid Chicago Cubs fan attending many day-time games during the time Wrigley Field had no lights. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Lou, brother-in-law, Kenny Smorin, and by a sister-in-law, Juanita (Steve) Boda. Survivors include brothers, Steve, Shawnee, KS, and Robert, Madison, WI, and a sister, Caroline Smorin, South Bend, IN. Per his wishes, his body was cremated, with burial in the State of Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Fernly, NV. Walton's Funeral Home, Sparks, NV, assisted with the burial arrangements.
