SOUTH BEND - Alice J. Cherrone, 81, of Columbus, GA (formerly of Fairington Circle in South Bend) died at 9:08 PM Monday, January 5, 2009 in her home. She was born on March 15, 1927 to the late Michael and Frances (Ozga) Sciba in South Bend, IN. Alice had lived her whole life in South Bend, until moving to Columbus, GA in April of 2008 to live with her daughter, Brenda. Along with her parents; a sister, Florence Ojorkiewicz; and two brothers, Roman and Floyd Sciba also preceded her in death. Mrs. Cherrone retired in 1991 from Memorial Hospital in South Bend, after working 40 years as an Emergency Room Registrar. She graduated from Washington High School, South Bend in 1946. On October 25, 1947, as Alice J. Sciba, she married Peter Cherrone at St. Adalbert Catholic Church in South Bend, IN. He died on July 22, 1991. She is survived by her daughter, Brenda K. Cherrone of Columbus, GA; two sons, James M. (Melody) Cherrone of Bremen; Thomas J. (Joan) Cherrone of South Bend; nine grandchildren, Thomisa, Joseph, Erin, Joshua, Nicholas, Windie, James, Jr., Lind a, and Kip; eight great-grandchildren, Mycah, Alex, Jennifer, Josalin, Victoria, Kelvin, Caroline, Carl; several nieces & nephews; cousins; and good friends. Mrs. Cherrone
was a member of St. Adalbert Parish, where she belonged to the Altar & Rosary Society, Harvest House and Sisters Auxiliary. She also was a member of St. Casimir Harvest House and Memorial Hospital Retirees. There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place. A Memorial Mass will be held at 9 AM Saturday, January 10, 2009 at St. Adalbert Catholic Church. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery. Kaniewski Funeral Home, South Bend, IN is handling services.
