Irene M. Cukrowicz, 79, of South Bend, passed away at 11:25 p.m. on Thursday, November 16, 2006, in the Holy Cross Care and Rehabilitation Center. Irene was born on October 27, 1927, in Harvey, Illinois, to Thadeus and Anna (Demakowski) Sieroslawski. On April 30, 1949, in Stevensville, Mich., Irene married Robert E. Cukrowicz. After their marriage, they moved to South Bend where she lived the remainder of her life. Preceding Irene in death were her parents, and brothers, Victor, Edward, Theodore and Marcel. Surviving are her husband, Robert; daughter, Mary Ann (James) Eaton of Sullivan, Mo.; grandchildren, Addie (Matthew) Walters of Willard, Mo., and Erin (Cole) Wilkins of Wheaton, Ill.; sister, Lillian Heyn of Baroda, Mich.; brothers, Robert (Norma) Shiero of Florida and Donald (Lynn) Sieroslawski of South Carolina.
Irene had retired in 1993 after 37 years of service as an assembler at RACO. She was an avid pinochle player and loved playing board games with her grandchildren. Visitation will be on Monday, November 20, 2006, from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. in ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Road, South Bend. A funeral service will be in the funeral home at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, November 20, 2006. Entombment will follow in the Guardian Angels Mausoleum, St. Joseph Cemetery, South Bend.
