Al was born Nov. 1, 1917, in Chicago, to the late Josef and Mary (Gyzbowska) Federowski. He was the former owner of the service station just east of Vandalia, and a fuel oil delivery service in connection with the service station. He was an avid supporter of the Barn Swallow Theatre. At this time, he and his wife were living on Donnell Lake. Al liked to visit with friends and make new friends. He enjoyed doing community activities and helping others. Al had been a member of the school board in Vandalia, and one of his prime objectives was to see that his children receive a good education. Al served in the United States Navy, doing two tours of duty. He served in Alaska and the Asiatic-Pacific area, San Diego, and the Massachusetts area. He was married June 2, 1956, at Edwardsburg Presbyterian Church, by Rev. Wallace Moore, to Marjorie Jane Silver, who survives. Marge was a former Cass Co. librarian and a Cass County Commissioner. Other survivors are their children, Mary Alice (Arthur) Sagebiel of Hico, TX, Dora Lucas of Cassopolis, Rachel (Col. Charles) Wilson of Fairfax, VA, Alex 2nd (Barbara) Federowski of Keene, TX, and Daniel (LuAnne) Federowski of North Port, FL. There are eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He has two sisters, Florence Drewenski of Tinley Park, IL, and Esther Bartels of Vandalia. Family who have passed are a daughter, Ruth Ann, in 1959, and his siblings, Estelle Erichsen, Charlotte Czyz, Jean Budzowski and Edward Federowski. There will be a memorial service on Saturday, July 14, 2012, at 2:00 PM in the Paul E. Mayhew Funeral Home, 26863 West Main St. (US-12), Edwardsburg. Friends and family may gather from 1-2 PM at the funeral home. Officiating will be Rev. Scott Scheel, pastor of the Edwardsburg Presbyterian Church, where they were longstanding members. Cremation burial will follow at Edwardsburg Cemetery, with the United States Navy Honor Guard playing TAPS and folding the flag. Memorial donations may be made to the Cass County Council on Aging, 60525 Decatur Road, Cassopolis, MI 49031. A portion of this obituary was published in April 2012; now the entire arrangements are completed. The Paul E. Mayhew Funeral Home, Edwardsburg, is serving the family.
