Thomas V. Weglowski, 81, of Elkhart, IN, passed away on Thursday evening, December 29, 2022, at Memorial Hospital in South Bend. Tom was born on June 21, 1941, in Mishawaka to John and Victoria (Garwacki) Weglowski, who both have preceded him in death. Tom is survived by wife, Patricia Weglowski of Elkhart, IN; his sister, Nancy Nickle of Mishawaka, IN; and his children, Renee (Jeff) Lawler of Granger, IN, Robyn Weglowski of Mishawaka, IN and Richard (Cassandra) Weglowski of Edwardsburg, MI. Also surviving are his grandchildren: Jeffrey, Jennifer, Jonathan, Zakaria, Vincent, David, and Steven; great-grandchildren; Addison, Aiden, Adley, Colsen and Cambri; and his many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Tom graduated from Penn High School in 1960 and enlisted in the Army Reserves from 1963-1969. He married Norma J. Ladyga (Ackenhusen) in 1965 and they had three children together. In 1980 he married Patricia J. Weglowski (Papai) where they lived together in the Mishawaka and Elkhart area. From 1967-1988, Tom worked for the Mishawaka Fire Department where he became a captain. He truly enjoyed his work and serving his local community. He also worked part-time at Memorial Hospital in the print shop during this time. After retiring from the Mishawka Fire Department, Tom worked for the city of Mishawaka by taking a position at the Mishawaka Utilities where he continued serving his community for another 17 years. Tom had a knack for taking something old and restoring it back to its natural luster. Be it a motorized bike, a classic car, or even an old lawn mower, you could always find him in his garage working and tinkering on something. He was known in his neighborhood as “Mr. Fix It” and enjoyed lending a helping hand to his neighbors and friends. Throughout his life, Tom maintained strong faith as he was a devout Catholic and would rarely miss a Sunday mass. Tom was a wonderful husband, father, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. He was always there to listen, give support, encouragement and tell you how much you were loved. He will be greatly missed. A visitation for Tom will be on Sunday, January 8, from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at the McGann Hay, Granger Chapel, 13260 SR23, enter off Cherry Rd., Granger, IN 46530.
