[N30641] Christopher "Skip" S. Wright
February 19, 1965 ~ December 10, 2021 (age 56)

Christopher Scheffler “Skip” Wright, 56, passed away at his home on Friday, December 10, 2021, after battling cancer for nearly two and a half years. Skip was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. Jack and Bernadette (Sobecki) Wright. As the youngest son and fourth eldest of six children, Skip is survived by his siblings, Stacey (Lowell Amos) Ankony of Goshen, IN; Dr. Jackie O’Beirne of Lakewood, CO; Sue Marx-Bohan of Auburn, GA; Laurie Badger of Galesburg, MI; and Chet (Deb) Wright of Smyrna, GA; the mother of his son, Jennifer Wright of South Bend, IN; and his son, Jackson Wright of South Bend, along with a host of nieces, nephews and extended family. Skip worked for over 30 years in the wine and spirits industry including a glorious run at the opening of Coach’s Sports Bar where he served as bar manager and 20+ years as sales manager at Indiana Wholesale Wine and Liquor. Most recently, he worked as an account manager for the South Bend Tribune. Skip had many opportunities to further his career by moving out of South Bend, but he loved his hometown and he loved the people, so he stayed put. If you met Skip, you were a friend for life. Skip, the consummate salesman, could sell ice to an Eskimo. Within hours of notice of Skip’s passing, texts, calls and emails began to flood in: Utah, San Francisco, Dallas, Jacksonville, Texas, Colorado, Florida. Skip has friends everywhere. Traveling with Skip is what I imagine it was like traveling with Elvis; from airport lounges to dive bars in Austin, there was always someone who knew the “unelected mayor of South Bend.” Skip was many things: proud graduate of The Stanley Clark School, Marian High School and Indiana University; fan of Notre Dame and the Oakland Raiders; certified Fine Wine expert; devotee of craft beer; Knights of Columbus member; lover of Indy Car and the Indianapolis 500; collegiate baseball player; hockey goalie; inductee to the World Wiffleball Hall of Fame and three-time world champion, dart thrower; sports handicapper; world-class tailgater; card player; Chicago White Sox fanatic; two-time cancer fighter; and a quadruple bypass survivor. But nothing was more important to him than his role as a dad. The arrival of his son, Jackson, nine years ago, changed his life immeasurably for the better. Skip spoke glowingly of Jackson and cherished every second they spent together. Jackson is the spitting image of Skip and has the same blue eyes and long lashes, for which Skip will be remembered. Thankfully, Jackson will have a vast network of family and friends lifting him up, letting him know what a great guy his father was, and crucially, reminding Jackson how much he was loved by his dad. The family will receive friends from 5:00-8:00 p.m. on Monday, December 20, 2021 at Palmer Funeral Home - Welsheimer North Chapel, 17033 Cleveland Road, South Bend, IN. A private funeral service and burial will take place at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park in Granger, IN. The family would like to extend thanks to Memorial Cancer Center, University of Michigan Cancer team, and University of Chicago Research Team that provided Skip with world-class healthcare during his treatments. In lieu of flowers, an Education Account has been set up for Jackson Wright at Teacher’s Credit Union. Donations can be made at any branch, or by calling (800) 552-4745.
