ELKHART - The family of Eleanor Y. Futterknecht will receive friends today, October 1st, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Hartzler-Gutermuth-Inman Funeral Home with a vigil at 7:00 P.M. The funeral service will be officiated by the Rev. William Sullivan at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday. Burial will follow at Rice Cemetery. Eleanor Futterknecht, 90, died at the Hubbard Hill Retirement Community at 9:30 p.m. Friday (September 28, 2012) after an extended illness. She was born in Elkhart to Robert R. Sr. and Florence (Hoover) Yeoman on August 6, 1922. She graduated from Elkhart High School and attended Indiana University where she met her future husband. She married Dr. James O. Futterknecht on April 23, 1945, in Mishawaka. He preceded her in death. She is survived by two daughters, Suzanne F. Casey and Nancy J. Futterknecht, both of Indianapolis; and two sons, James O. Jr. (Sandy) of Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, and John R. of Elkhart; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Patricia E., and her siblings, Evelyn Y. Lux, Robert R. Yeoman Jr. and Richard A. Yeoman. After her marriage, she lived in Detroit, Michigan, and San Antonio, Texas, before returning to Elkhart in 1953. She was an active member of the Elkhart County Medical Alliance and the Delta Theta Tau Sorority for more than 40 years. She especially enjoyed being part of the Old Timers bowling league, and
could still roll '200' games in her 70s. She is a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, and a former member of the Four Arts Club and Elcona Country Club.
