Irene Elizabeth Pospolita (née Miranda) passed away Monday, April 11, 2022, at IU Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. Irene was born October 13, 1958, in Indiana to the late Dr. Thomas J. Miranda and Carol Mott Miranda. Irene grew up in Granger, Indiana, and attended Notre Dame University before working in several radio and television broadcasting jobs. She then moved to Northern Virginia to take a technical position at the Public Broadcasting Service, where she worked for 16 years. It was in Virginia that she met her husband, George R. Pospolita, and they were married in Granger on September 5, 1992. Irene was selfless with her time and energy, serving as the president of the Prince William County Crime Prevention Council for many years as well as representing her community on several boards. In her role as president of the Crime Prevention Council, she often spoke to schoolchildren about physical and cyber safety as well as anti-bullying issues. A lifelong lover of animals, she was active in animal rescue and rehabilitation efforts and had a special gift relating to all manner of creatures. Irene is survived by her husband George, two sisters, two brothers, and many close friends. Funeral services for Irene will be held Saturday, April 23, 2022, at 2:00 P.M. at Palmer Funeral Home-Welsheimer North Chapel, 17033 Cleveland Road, South Bend, IN. Friends may visit with the family starting at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home. Irene will be laid to rest in Granger at a later date.
