Mrs. Angeline "Angie" R. Eckstein, 92, of LaPorte, died Dec. 7, 2011, at Fountainview Terrace Nursing Home, LaPorte. She was born Oct. 14, 1919, in LaPorte to Joseph and Rose (Janik) Kleca.
A lifelong resident of LaPorte, she retired from LaPorte Hospital in housekeeping and was formerly employed by Athletic Shoe Company for 18 years. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Her pride and joy was helping others and visiting friends in nursing homes and in the hospital who needed her. She will be missed very much by those who knew her. On July 5, 1952, in LaPorte, she married Leo L. Eckstein, who preceded her in death on Feb. 19, 1999. Also preceding her in death were her parents and six brothers. She leaves one stepson, Phillip Eckstein of Cookeville,TN; six step-grandchildren; one step-great-grandchild; one sister, Veronica Pawlak of South Bend, IN; and several nieces and nephews. A funeral Mass will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, LaPorte, on Monday, Dec. 12, at 10 a.m. with Rev. Ian Williams officiating. Visitation wil be at Essling Funeral Home, LaPorte, on Sunday, Dec. 11, from 3 to 6 p.m. and Monday from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. The rosary will be recited Sunday at 4 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Patton Cemetery, LaPorte, on Monday following the service. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
