Josephine Sands, 80, of East Calvert Street, South Bend, Ind., passed away after an illness on Tuesday, April 23, in Hospice House, South Bend. Josephine was born on Feb. 20, 1922, in Mishawaka, Ind., as the daughter of the late Pasquale and Anna (Genna) Digirolamo. Josephine was also preceded in death by a daughter, Betty Jo Tompsett. On March 26, 1966, in Niles, Mich., Josephine married Lee H. Sands, who survives. Josephine is also survived by two sons, Dennis (Shirley) Hagye of Mishawaka and Ricky Lee Sands (fiancé, Jill Armstrong) of South Bend; four granddaughters, Tracy Tompsett of Mishawaka, Lesley Tompsett of South Bend, Tara Hagye of Mishawaka and Ashley Sands of Mishawaka; a great-granddaughter, Kiley Tompsett of Mishawaka; four sisters, Vita Vaszari of South Bend, Lucy Kaplachinski of Mishawaka, Annie Dedio of Berwyn, Ill., Angie Trittipo of Mishawaka; and by a brother, Joe (Alice) Digirolamo of South Bend.Friends may call from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today, April 25, in the Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th Street, Mishawaka, where a Rosary will be recited at 3:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 26, in St. Bavo's Catholic Church, Mishawaka, with Rev. Barry England officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Mishawaka. Contributions may be made in memory of Josephine to the American Cancer Society, 535 W.
