Aug. 26, 1912 - May 5, 2012
SOUTH BEND - Regina "Reggie" C. Weisel, 99, passed away at 9:18 am on Saturday, May 5, 2012 at Keystone Home, Niles, MI. Regina was born in South Bend on August 26, 1912 to the late Stephen and Stella (Gramza) Goralczyk. On June 20, 1933 Regina married Harry Weisel who passed away on March 14, 1995. Regina was also preceded in death by brothers, Matthew and Frank (Joe) Goralczyk, and sister, Theresa (Goralski) Schneider. Surviving is a brother, Jerome (Mardell) Goralczyk of South Bend; Niece, Pam (Mark) Piechocki of South Bend; nephews, Terry (Lil) Goralski of South Bend, Kenny (Sue) Goralczyk of South Bend, Michael Goralczyk of South Bend, and Stephen (Sandy) Goralczyk of Manhattan, KS. Regina worked for several years as a Bookkeeper for the Wilson Brothers Company. She volunteered daily for the St. Joseph County Democratic Headquarters and was active in the Democratic Party for over 60 years. She was awarded the Sagimore of the Wabash Award from Govenor Joseph Kernan and named the Honorary Secretary of the State of Indiana on August 6, 2004. Regina was a parishioner of St. Casimir Parish where she was one of the founders of the St. Casimir Senior Citizens Club and enjoyed attending monthly meetings, she was also a former member of the church choir. As a spouse of a Bendix Retiree, she became very active in the Bendix Retirement Club. Regina loved life; she loved people, loved dancing the hokey pokie and the chicken dance. She was also a sports enthusiast and loved to have fun. She loved to send greeting cards, but always with a personal handwritten message. She had beautiful handwriting and a way with words. She loved helping people and did things from her heart, not for attention or praise. Years ago at a group retreat everyone was asked what they would like to be remembered for, and she wrote: "After I'm gone I'd like to be remembered for the love I gave unconditionally, the kindness I showed toward everyone, my great laugh and smile, my soft voice, my hugs and kisses so that a little bit of me will always be with you". Our lives have been so blessed by her warm smile, kind spirit and generous heart. A special 'Thank you' to her caregivers at Keystone Home, Kathie, Mindy, Lisa, Pam and Rhonda who not only gave her care, but also gave her love. You truly are a special group of amazing women. A special 'woof woof', to Bailey the canine companion at the home. The Rose Beyond the Wall, A Rose once grew where all could see sheltered beside a garden wall, and as the days passed swiftly by, it spread its branches and tall... One day, a beam of light shone through a crevice that had open wide. The rose bent gently toward its warmth then passed beyond to the other side... Now all who deeply feel its loss, be comforted...the rose blooms there...Its beauty even greater now, forever nurtured by Gods loving care. Visitation will be from 2:00pm until 8:00pm on Tuesday, May 8, 2012 in ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Road where a Rosary will be prayed at 4:00 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00am on Wednesday, May 9, 2012 in St. Casimir Catholic Church. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. Memorial Contributions in memory of Reggie may be made to St. Casimir Catholic Church, 1308 W. Dunham St., South Bend, IN 46619 and the Hospice at Home, 4017 Chamberlain Rd., Buchanan, MI 49107. Condolences may be made at www.sjfh.net.
