SOUTH BEND - Rita Joan Derucki, 86, of South Bend, Indiana passed away at 1:42 p.m., Saturday, July 20, 2013 in Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center. Rita was born on July 17, 1927 in South Bend to Stanley and Bertha A. (Kolupa) Kruszewski and was a lifelong resident. She had been employed at the former Robertson's and at the University of Notre Dame Bookstore. On October 25, 1952, in St. Stanislaus Church, she married Raymond Derucki, who passed away on March 23, 2005. She was also preceded in death by one brother, Stanley Kruszewski; and one brother-in-law, James Bland. She is survived by her daughter, Mary Ellen Derucki of South Bend, Indiana; two sons, Neal Derucki and Raymond (Carol) Derucki both of South Bend, Indiana; three grandchildren, Mitchell, Andrew, and Kenneth Derucki; and one sister, Virginia Bland. Mom was one who enjoyed the simple things in life. Whether it is spending time with her grandchildren or sitting on the front porch in the summertime waiting for a neighbor to stop by for a friendly conversation. Her home cooking will be missed by her family, especially her homemade polish dumplings. The dumplings actually had to be counted to make sure each member received the same number, that's how much they were enjoyed. At Christmas time each year she would tell the story of the ceramic Santa Clause she received while working at Robertson's in her younger days. Most of all Mom and Dad, you have raised three children that love you very much and will miss you more than you will ever know. Rita was a member of St. John the Baptist Parish and the M.R. Falcons. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00, Wednesday, July 24, 2013 in St. John the Baptist Church. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 until 8 p.m. Tuesday in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, where a Rosary will be prayed at 4:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Center for Hospice Care, Inc. To send online condolences, please visit Kaniewski.com.
