ROLLING PRAIRIE - Mrs. Phyllis J. Kratz, 84, of Rolling Prairie, IN, passed away at her home surrounded by her family on May 9, 2014. She was born on March 27, 1930, in Rolling Prairie, to Martin and Gertrude (Turak) Wellinski, and was a lifelong resident. Phyllis retired as a cook for New Prairie High School after 27 years. On April 24, 1954, in Rolling Prairie, she married Richard D. Kratz. She was a member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Post 297. She is survived by her husband, 1 daughter, Kristine Bodie of Rolling Prairie; 1 son, Richard F. Kratz of Rolling Prairie; 3 grandchildren, Anthony, Anna and Angela; 2 great-grandchildren, Alexis and Liam; 1 sister, Mary Jo Mueller of Michigan; 3 brothers, David Wellinski of LaPorte, Joseph Wellinski of LaPorte and James Wells of TN. She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters, Angeline Baud, Margie Boyce and Norma Wellinski. The funeral service will be on Saturday at noon at the Essling Funeral Home with Chaplain Bridgett officiating. The visitation will be on Saturday from 10-noon at the funeral home.
