Dorothy E. Wilk, 91, formerly of California Avenue, in South Bend, Ind., passed away at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 25 in Regency Place of South Bend. She was born on Aug. 6, 1912, to the late Adam and Eva (Kopits) Jurkaites in South Bend, and was a lifelong resident. One granddaughter, Janet Wilk; a sister; and three brothers also preceded her in death. Mrs. Wilk retired from the University of Notre Dame, where she worked for 28 years. On Aug. 15, 1940, as Dorothy E. Jurkaites, she married Frank P. Wilk Jr. in South Bend, Ind. He died on May 7, 1987. She is survived by a daughter, Virginia D. (Ronald T.) Prebys of Louisville, Ky.; a son, Frank P. (Charlotte) Wilk III of Granger, Ind.; five grandchildren, James Wilk, Cheryl Wilk, Kate Moore, Denise Prebys and Kathleen Prebys; two great-grandchildren; one sister, Bernice Turnock of Houston, Texas; and a brother, Art Jurkaites of Arizona. Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. today, Feb. 28, in Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, with Rev. William Seetch, CSC officiating. Cremation will follow. Burial will take place at Highland Cemetery at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of St. Joseph County, Inc., 111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, IN 46637-3437.
