Mary Katherine Luce, 65, of New Carlisle, Indiana passed away on Thursday, June 2, 2022 in her home surrounded by her family. She was born on February 11, 1957 in Chicago, Illinois to the late Arthur J. and Francis B. (Gac) Dietz. Mary was also preceded in death by one son-in-law, Robert Smith; siblings, Doris Dietz, Elizabeth Soriet, John Dietz and Arthur Dietz. On September 30, 1978, she married David A. Luce who survives. She is also survived by four daughters, Jennifer Smith of Rolling Prairie, Indiana, Natalie (Jeff) Evans of New Carlisle, Indiana, Heather (Dan) Finch of South Bend, Indiana, Ashley (Donovan) Burkhart of Anderson, Indiana; eleven grandchildren, Robert, Joseph, Olivia and Gabriella Smith, Jadalyn Evans, Brady and Tommy Goforth, Daniel, Jr. and Henry Finch, Axel and Allen Burkhart; three sisters Bernadine (William) Vollmer, Theresa (Frank) Petrarca, Jacqueline Dietz; three brothers, George, Howard and Joseph Dietz. Mary worked as an event coordinator for the University of Notre Dame. She enjoyed days at the casino with her best friend, Sandie, spending time with her grandchildren and hanging out at the family pool. She loved the Chicago Bears and the Fighting Irish. Mary and her husband loved to go out dancing. A visitation for Mary will be held on Monday, June 6, 2022 at the Kaniewski Funeral Home 3545 N. Bendix Dr. South Bend, IN from 3:00 until 8:00 pm EST. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am EST on Tuesday, June 7, 2022 at the Kaniewski Funeral Home in South Bend with visitation for one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in New Carlisle Cemetery. Memorial Contributions may be made to Heartland Hospice in Mary’s honor.
