Ronald Stewart Kalman, 77, died May 29, 2022, at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, Mishawaka. A lifelong resident of this area, Ron was born October 19, 1944, in South Bend, to Stanley L. and Helen V. (Stewart) Kalamajski. A graduate of South Bend Central High School, Ron attended Valparaiso University and earned both BA and MA degrees in Education from Indiana University. Ron thoroughly enjoyed teaching in South Bend elementary schools for forty years. He often said his time in classrooms was a pleasure, not a job. During his retirement, he also taught at St. Monica’s School, Mishawaka. He was a skilled organist who loved attending organ concerts. His favorite hobby was creating greeting cards. Ron is survived by his sister, Sandra Metcalfe of Mishawaka; nephews, Steven Patrick (Heidi) Metcalfe of South Bend and Jason Patrick (Ann) Metcalfe of Osceola; along with five great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law, Patrick Metcalfe. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, June 23, 2022, at Christ the King Catholic Church, 52473 SR 933, South Bend, IN 46637, where Ron was a member. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the mass. Palmer Funeral Homes - River Park Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
