Homer A. Blume, 89, of Ridge Road, Mishawaka, Ind., passed away after a lengthy illness on Tuesday morning, May 30, in his residence. Homer was born on Nov. 3, 1910, in Mishawaka, to the late August and Maude (Keiser) Blume. He was preceded in death by a sister, Berniece Egendorfer; and by three brothers, Fred, Lawrence and Howard Blume. On Nov. 26, 1931, Homer married the former Maxine Shafer, who also preceded him in death on Jan. 5, 1977. On Dec. 29, 1979, he married the former Rosemary B. Sullivan, who survives. He is also survived by a daughter, Joan (Dennis) Wilson of Spring, Texas; two sons, Lawrence C. Blume of Mishawaka and Rev. James R. Blume of Montpelier, Ohio; three grandchildren, Ian, Ana and Max Wilson of Spring; a brother, Ervin Blume of South Bend, Ind.; a stepdaughter, Patricia (Richard) Mincinski of Georgetown, Texas; a stepson, Michael (Marcia) Sullivan of South Bend; three step-grandchildren, Lee Ann (Jamey) Rentfrow of Caddo Mills, Texas, Michael Mincinski of Los Angeles, Calif., and Mark (Dawndia) Mincinski of Lubbock, Texas; and by three step- great-grandchildren, James, Christopher and Jennifer Rentfrow of Caddo Mills. Homer was employed by the South Bend Tribune for 47 years, retiring in 1974 as manager of the Tribune's Mishawaka office. He was a member of the Tribune 25- Year Club, a past president and lifetime member of the Mishawaka Lions Club, and was a lifetime member of the Knight's of Columbus Council 1878 in Mishawaka, belonging to the 4th Degree of the Fr. Niewland Assembly with the Knights of Columbus. He was a graduate of Mishawaka High School, and a member of Queen of Peace Parish in Mishawaka.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday, June 2, in the Thallemer-Goethals Funeral Home, Mishawaka, where a Rosary will be recited at 4:30 p.m. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 3, in Queen of Peace Church, with Fr. Elden Miller officiating. Interment will follow in the Fairview Cemetery, Mishawaka. Memorial contributions may be made to Queen of Peace Church.

MISHAWAKA - Larry Blume, 67, of 609 Tanglewood Lane, formerly of 457 Ridge Road, died at 9:13 a.m. Wednesday (May 7, 2008) in Fountainview Place of Mishawaka. He was born December 17, 1940, in Mishawaka to Homer and Maxine (Shafer) Blume. Surviving is a brother, Jim R. Blume of Hastings, FL, and a sister, Joan M. (Dennis W.) Wilson, of Mishawaka. Also surviving are two nephews, Ian P. Wilson of New York City, New York and Max C. Wilson of Nacogdoches, TX; and a niece, Ana K. Wilson of Ft. Worth, TX. Larry retired from the South Bend Police Department in 2001 as a Division Chief. He was a police officer for 34 years. After his retirement from the police department he worked as a police office for the University of Notre Dame. Larry graduated in 1959 from Mishawaka High School. He was a member of Queen of Peace Catholic Church, the Mishawaka Knights of Columbus, and the South Bend FOP Lodge #36. He was a US Army veteran, an avid Notre Dame Sports Fan and he enjoyed golfing. A Memorial Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 20, in Queen of Peace Catholic Church, 4508 Vistula Road, Mishawaka, IN. At Larry's request, cremation will take place. Elkhart Cremation Services is assisting the family with arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to the Center for Hospice and Palliative Care, 111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, IN 46637.
