Thomas Michael D'Haeze
September 22, 1945 ~ April 13, 2022 (age 76)
Thomas Michael D’Haeze, 76, passed away on Wednesday morning, April 13, 2022 at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Mishawaka, IN. He was born in South Bend, IN, on September 22, 1945 to Mary Ann (Przybylski) and Edward D'Haeze. Tom was a hard-working family man, who was always willing to lend others a helping hand. His musical talent and sense of humor will be missed my many. He was an altar server at daily mass for many years at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church. Tom graduated from St. Joseph High School Class of 1963 with honors and Notre Dame School of Business Class of 1967. He was married on July 20, 1968 and celebrated 53 years of marriage. Tom received his CPA in April of 1976 and was employed by National Standard. He later retired as CFO from Dwyer Instruments (1980-2008). He lived in South Bend, Michigan City, and Lake Wales (Florida). Tom is survived by wife, Kathy; brother, Jim D'Haeze (Eileen and children); sister, Marilyn Ruszkowski (Marty); and half-sister, Sherrill Angeles; son, Brian (Jennifer) D'Haeze; and daughter, Kimberly (Warren) McConkey. Gran’pa/Dedushka very much loved and will always be loved by eight grandchildren-two of which were called to heaven-Benjamin, Mary, Gabriel, Isabelle, Eleanor, and Francis D’Haeze, and Matthew "Stas" and Journey " Mei" McConkey. Tom will also be missed by many nieces, nephews, and loving friends. Tom was passionate about music which carried over throughout his life. At a young age, he played the accordion with his brother Jim with the TEDDY BEARS and THE BLUE NOTES. He had an additional connection with his grandchildren and others through his love of music. He was a self-taught musician and played various instruments, including the accordion, drums, and piano. He enjoyed teaching couples country dancing with Amarillo Star and the Lake Ashton Community. Tom kept his mind sharp with sudoku, and always carried a book with him. Tom was a “bogey golfer” and was ecstatic when his score reflected birdies and eagles. Notre Dame was a significant part of his life, and he was a season ticket holder for basketball for many years and enjoyed ND football games weekly. He visited all 50 states and experienced the world. Tom was part of the United States Marine Corps. He actively participated in community groups including the Moose, Amarillo Star, and Notre Dame Parish (Michigan City, Indiana). He left this world on April 13, 2022 for a better position. Cardinals were a favorite bird of Tom’s, so if you see a cardinal, you might be reminded that he is thinking of you. On Monday, April 18, 2022, the family will host a visitation from 5:00-7:30pm EDT at Palmer Funeral Home-Hickey Chapel, 17131 Cleveland Road, South Bend, IN, where a rosary will be recited at 5:00pm EDT. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30am EDT on Tuesday, April 19, 2022 at the Basilica of the Sacred Heart on the campus of the University of Notre Dame. Graveside services and inurnment will follow at Cedar Grove Cemetery, Notre Dame. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.palmerfuneralhomes.com.
