Helen Bencsics

Helen was born December 2, 1926 in So. Bend , Indiana. She was preceded in death by her parents John Bencsics (Sopron, Hungary) and Helen Nemes Bencsics (Irving, Pennsylvania) and her husband William McClain (Hymera , Indiana). Helen died January 26, 2021, not far from her home in Eustis, Florida. Helen was a seamstress, a musician, a college graduate and much more. In 1944, Helen graduated from high school. She sang in chorus, played several musical instruments and was part of the jazz band. She also played in a band after high school. In 1946, Helen passed her internship with The General Hosp. Association. In 1948, Helen married Bill and joined a church choir, conducted a children's choir, children's band and sang in a ladies trio. Helen began working in Child Evangelism teaching at least two Good News clubs a week being in charge of the music. Helen now had to remember her Bible and her pitch pipe. Helen also started sewing and playing scrabble. In 1970, Helen and Bill moved to Florida. Helen continued working in Child Evangelism and sewing. Helen became a master seamstress who made draperies, costumes, upholstery and wedding dresses including her granddaughter's. When Helen wasn't knitting or crocheting, she was crafting holiday decorations. In 2008, one of her garments was pictured in the Orlando Sentinel. In 1986, Helen graduated from Lake Sumpter Community College at age 59. After retiring, Helen and Bill traveled with the Escapees chapter #27 and were officers in the local chapter. Helen was told she had perfect timing by a professional dancer when she was 91. She attended an Orlando Magic game at age 92. She continued with scrabble, winning at age 93. In 1978 when Helen's father died, his pocket watch contained a secret picture, a picture of Helen. Grandpa wasn't the only person who thought his daughter was special. Anya was a wonderful blessing. Mom will be missed forever.
