Aug. 17, 1916 July 15, 1996 SOUTH BEND Alex F. Al Nowicki, 79, of W. Linden Ave., died at 8:55 a.m. Monday in St. Josephs Medical Center. Mr. Nowicki retired in 1981, from the Bendix Corporation after 48 years of service. He was born on Aug. 17, 1916, in South Bend, Ind., and was a lifelong area resident. On Aug. 4, 1937, in South Bend, Ind., he married Martha Zielinski. She preceded him in death on Oct. 21, 1987. Surviving is a daughter, Mary Ann Winkel of South Bend, Ind.; and a son Gene Nowicki of South Bend, Ind.; five grandchildren; seven-great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Services will be Thursday, at 11 a.m. at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church. Entombment will be at the Resurrection Gardens Mausoleum in the St. Joseph Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. Wednesday, and from 10 a.m. until service time Thursday, in the St. Joseph Funeral Home, 824 S. Mayflower Road, South Bend. A rosary will be recited at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday. Mr. Nowicki was an Army veteran of World War II. He also was a member of the American Legion Pulaski Post #357 and of the Bendix Old Timers Club.
