[N33674] Joan Lane Kalus
July 12, 1937 ~ November 10, 2022 (age 85)

Joan Kalus, 85, passed away on Thursday November 10, 2022 in Mishawaka, Indiana. She was born on July 12, 1937 in South Bend, Indiana to the late Jean and Bess (Cox) Lane. Joan married the love of her life, Jack Kalus, and had so much love for him. Joan is survived by her three daughters, Maggie (Robert) Freese of Mishawaka, Tracey (Marc) Freese of Mishawaka, and Brooke (Max) Jenkins of Arizona; son, Curtis (Nancy) Freese of South Bend; eleven grandchildren, Trevor, Curtis, Christopher, Alex, Amy, Shawn, Sara, Shannon, Lane, Ben, and Xenia; several great grandchildren; three sisters, Cookie, Snookie, and Peg; and three brothers, Jerry, Chip and Gordy. Along with her parents, Joan is also preceded in death by her husband; daughter, Debi Freese; and son, Michael Freese. She had a strong love for bingo and each day would claim she would win big. The end of each night would be filled with smiles and a laugh if you asked her if she won. With a smile, she would always respond with, "shit no." Anyone that knew her, knew how much of a social butterfly she was and how she just made you comfortable and carefree. From young ages, her grandkids loved to play poker with her because it was a way she got them to open up. Whether she was getting them to talk about school, or sneakily sliding them some dimes when they lost, the game always prompted conversation and is an everlasting memory. She will be missed. Per the family’s wishes, no services will be held at this time. Palmer Funeral Home - Bubb Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.Online condolences may be left for the family at www.palmerfuneralhomes.com.
