Lorraine Rozewicz
Nov. 15, 1927 - June 15, 2012
BEAVERTON, OR - Lorraine Rozewicz, 84, our beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend passed away peacefully on the morning of June 15, 2012 in the Portland Providence Medical Center of pneumonia, with her daughter Judith by her side. Born November 15, 1927 in South Bend as Lauretta Cudowski to the late Piotr and Stanislawa Cudowski, who emigrated to the United States from Poland, Lauretta was the seventh of nine children and was preceded in death by Regina, Stella, Gene, Ervin and Florence. She is survived by sisters, Helene, Louise and Mary Lou. Lorraine and her siblings worked from childhood in the family business, the "Polonia (Poland) Bakery". She graduated from South Bend Catholic High School and then married her high school sweetheart, Stanley Rozewicz, in 1949. After the birth of their first two daughters, they bought the family home on Garland St. Along with raising her five children, Lorraine was employed at Associates, Gem-of-the-Sea, St. Joseph Hospital and REAL Services. Her favorite job was at the Fannie May candy store where she could combine her love of chocolate with her sociable, outgoing personality. As a parishioner of Little Flower Church, Lorraine also volunteered for various charities such as The Clothing Center in the 1960's and 1970's as part of the Parish social ministry and prepared meals for families in need. Lorraine was preceded in death by her husband "Rosy" in 1993, and continued to live in South Bend, where she was a respected friend and neighbor to many people of all ages. Lorraine loved to read, eat, swim, dance, listen to music and laugh. She moved to Portland, Oregon in 2003 to be closer to her daughters living on the West Coast and resided at the Firwood Gardens until her death. We extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff at Firwood and Providence Elderplace in Portland. Lorraine is survived by her four daughters: Judith (Carroll) Kimmerling of Beaverton, Oregon, Rebecca Rozewicz of San Francisco, Francine Rozewicz (Christine) of San Francisco, and Cynthia Rozewicz (Philippe) Sonnet of Louvain-la-Neuve, Belgium; she was preceded in death by a son, Jon Phillip (1956) and daughter, Lynn Marie (1990). She is also survived by three grandsons: Jon-Paul Lawrence of South Bend and Ryan Lawrence of Elkhart, sons of Lynn Rozewicz-Lawrence and Kelly Lawrence, and Jean-Eli Sonnet of Limal, Belgium, son of Cynthia Rozewicz- Sonnet and Philippe Sonnet; and one great-granddaughter, Sabina Rose, daughter of Jon-Paul and Elisa Lawrence of South Bend. A Mass of Christian Burial for Lorraine will be celebrated at 11:00 am on Thursday, September 13, 2012 at Little Flower Catholic Church, 54191 Ironwood Road, South Bend, where a Rosary will be prayed at 10:00 am, one hour prior to the Mass. A reception to follow in the church hall. All who knew Lorraine and her family are welcome. Remembrances may be made to the Smile Train or Firwood Gardens, 819 N.E. 122nd Ave., Portland, OR 97230.
