SOUTH BEND - Geraldine E. Coughlin, 89, of South Bend, passed away on Wednesday, August 30, 2017, at Dujarie House at Holy Cross Village. She was born on November 3, 1927, in Michigan City, to the late John B. and Bernice (Borkowski) Blair. On October 18, 1947, at St. Stanislaus Church, Michigan City, as Geraldine Blair, she married Paul Coughlin, who survives. Also surviving are her two sons, Kevin J. (Tina) Coughlin of Valrico, FL, and Brian P. (Nancy) Coughlin of South Bend; four daughters, Kristine A. (Brian) McDowell of Kerrville, TX, Patrice J. (Timothy) Pahr of Burnsville, MN, Paula (Robert) Slane of South Bend and Mary Jill (Robert) Kroske of Greer, SC; 14 grandchildren, Michele Bishop of Richland, MI, and Dorothea Kruis of Holland, MI, Christopher Coughlin of Riverview, FL, and Andrew Coughlin of St. Petersburg, FL, Joseph Nufer of South Bend, Nicole Lehman of Granger and Kathleen Hill of South Bend, David Coughlin of South Bend, Greta Pahr of Burnsville, MN, and Hanna Pahr of St. Paul, MN, Lt. Adam Hesch of Mandeville, LA, and Lt. Susan Niemier of Pensacola, FL, and Benjamin Kroske of Sandy Springs, GA, and William Kroske of Greer, SC; 16 great-grandchildren; and by a daughter-in-law, Dalthea Coughlin. She was preceded in death by a son, Michael Coughlin, and by three sisters, Lorraine, Arlene and Lucille Blair. Mrs. Coughlin worked for the Department of Water Works in Michigan City and then as a secretary for Edward J. White, Inc. in South Bend for 19 years before retiring in February 1990. She was a devoted wife, daughter, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her family gave her great joy, guiding her children and grandchildren with cooking, music and sewing techniques. She was a parishioner of Christ the King Catholic Church, South Bend. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. on Monday, September 4, 2017, at the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Dr., South Bend, where a Parish Rosary will be prayed at 7:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, September 5, 2017, at Christ the King Catholic Church, 52473 IN-933, South Bend; burial will follow at Highland Cemetery, South Bend.
