Eddie E. Van Laere
April 25, 1926 - May 28, 2017
SOUTH BEND - Eddie E. Van Laere, 91, formerly of Kaley St., passed away on Sunday, May 28, 2017 in West Bend Nursing Facility. Eddie was born April 25, 1926 in South Bend to the late Rene and Olida (VanDeWalle) Van Laere. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, August and Marshall Van Laere; and a sister, Rachel Van Laere. On August 12, 1950, in St. Casimir Catholic Church, Eddie married his loving wife of 67 years, Katheryn (Kolczynska) Van Laere; she survives along with their children, Andrew (Cherie) Van Laere of Granger and Mary Claire Soboulliard of Indianapolis; grandchildren, Jessica (James), Jennifer, Ashley, Brianna, Chantel and Andre; and great-grandchildren, Haven, Christopher, Timothy and Chelsea. Eddie honorably served his country in the United States Army Troop K, 3rd. Squadron during WWII. He was employed with the Studebaker Corporation, Memorial Hospital, and the U.S. Post Office Olive Branch 330 where he retired in 1988. Eddie was also a NALC Branch 330 member and Post Office Union Member for 50 years. He was a parishioner of St. Adalbert Catholic Church where he was also a Bingo volunteer. Eddie and his wife, Katheryn delivered food for Meals on Wheels for a few years. He enjoyed walking with his Katheryn at Rum Village Park, working in the yard, mowing his lawn and vegetable gardening. Eddie and his wife loved wildlife, feeding the squirrels and birds and caring for their dog, George. The family would like to thank Beacon Home Health Care, West Bend Nursing Home and Heart to Heart Hospice for the care and support provided to Eddie and his family.
