SOUTH BEND - Frank F. Banicki, age 76, was born in South Bend, Indiana on September 30, 1939 to Margaret Wieczorek-Puzynski and Frank L. Banicki. He passed away on Sunday, December 13, 2015 in South Bend surrounded by his family after a long battle with Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma. Frank married Janis M. Mezykowski on Friday, May 13, 1960 in Saint Mark's Roman Catholic Church in Niles, Michigan. She survives. He is also survived by his children: John (Margaret Barbera) Banicki, Ron (Kim Ankrom) Banicki and Barbara (Rob) VanDeGenahte of Mishawaka, IN; David (Angie Wilson) Banicki of Lakeville, IN, Sharon Banicki, Dan (Kristie Swisher) Banicki and Ann (James) Snodgrass of South Bend and daughter-in-law, Alma Jo Lucas Banicki of South Bend, Indiana. He is also survived by grandchildren: Michael (Chloe) Banicki of Barronett, Wisconsin, Melissa Snyder of Olympia, Washington, Jennifer (Matt) Hummel of North Liberty, IN, Matthew (Krystal) Banicki of North Liberty, IN, David (Chelsea) Banicki of Mishawaka, IN, Shawna (Kyle) Rupert of Plymouth, IN, Sarah Banicki of Lakeville, IN, Alicia (John) Sevison of Elkhart, IN, Jason Banicki-Critchlow of South Bend, IN, James (Nicole) Banicki of South Bend, IN, Samantha VanDeGenahte and Devin VanDeGenahte of Mishawaka, IN, Amanda Banicki (Race Neely) of Annawan, Illinois, Thomas Banicki Jr. of South Bend, IN, Jessica Alexander-Banicki of Mishawaka, IN, Courtney Taylor of Mishawaka, IN, Paul Comstock IV of Indianapolis, IN, Danielle Banicki of Mishawaka, IN, Makayla, Mackenzie, Maranda and Matthew Fockler all of Walkerton, IN, Kloee and Kavannah Snodgrass of South Bend, IN. Also surviving are fifteen great-grandchildren, and sisters, Evelyn Carlson of South Bend, IN, Janine (Quinto) Squadroni of Mishawaka, IN and sister-in-law, Theresa Banicki of South Bend, IN. He was predeceased by his parents, son, Thomas Banicki Sr., grandson, Christopher Fockler, sisters, Francis Perry, Theresa Kendziorski and Theresa Swartz; and brothers, Frank Puzynski, Edward Puzynski, Eugene Banicki and Irvin Banicki. He was a member of St. Adalbert Catholic Church. He worked for the South Bend City Parks Department for 42 years. He was an assistant superintendent for Erskine Golf Course for 27 years, before retiring as the Small Engine Repair specialist for the South Bend Parks Department. After retiring he spent many hours at his son Ron's gas station doing small engine repair and teaching his grandsons how to work on small engines. He loved to bowl, golf, play cards, camp and travel. He was a member of the South Bend City Tournament Championship Handicap Bowling Team in 2010 with two of his sons, John and Ron, his grandson, Jason and his longtime friend, Larry Paszli. He and his wife have been lot owners at the Plymouth Jellystone Campground since 1987. He was a member of West Side Democratic Club. He also served as a Democratic Precinct committeeman for 30 years. He was a hardworking, devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather who never met a stranger. He loved to sit on his front porch with family, friends and his dog Izzy to visit and to talk to anyone that walked by. He always put others in front of himself. He could always be found helping others who needed help. Be it running errands for neighbors who couldn't get out or taking them to appointments when they could not drive. He loved helping others. Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. Friday, December 18, 2015 at Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, IN, where a Parish Rosary will be recited at 4:00 p.m. Visitation will also be from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Saturday, December 19, 2015 at Kaniewski Funeral Home, South Bend, IN. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 19, 2015 at St. Adalbert Catholic Church. Cremation will follow. The family would like to thank Dr. Robin Zon and Dr. Patricia Jordan, Kelly and the rest of the staff at Michiana Hematology for all of their care over the years.
