Violet (Gulyanics) Christian, 94, died on January 19, 2023, in Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center, Mishawaka. She was born January 1, 1929, to the late Michael and Julia (Sverenijok) Gulyanics. Violet married Charles (Cris) Christian, her spouse of thirty-seven years, June 1, 1963, in San Gabriel, California. Violet is preceded in death by her husband Cris, and all her siblings, namely brothers Michael Gulyanics Jr., and George (Ann) Gulyanics and sisters Annie Gulyanics, Mary (John) Sweeney, Julia (Vere) Robinson, and Elsie (Warren) Groh. She is survived by a step-daughter, numerous nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews. Violet held a degree in musical education from Chicago Musical College that she used to enrich the lives of children. She taught music in multiple states but switched to teaching kindergarten, which she did for thirty-three years, in Southern California. She was a skilled violinist and vocalist. She played with the South Bend Symphony, at special events, and with the musical group, The Lemanics. Outside of education and music, Violet lived a blessed and adventurous life. She was vivacious and had a fun-loving spirit. In her younger years, she worked at Ball Band during what she dubbed “the victory shift”. Violet and Cris cherished traveling. They often were involved in programs where they would swap houses with families from overseas, so they could truly immerse themselves in the language and culture of other countries all while making lifelong friends along the way. Violet lived most of her adult life in Southern California retuning to Mishawaka in late 2018, to be closer to family, who will miss her dearly. Memorial contributions can be made to the South Bend Symphony Orchestra’s youth-oriented programs (Symphony-To-Go; Young People’s Discovery Concerts), 127 N. Michigan Street, South Bend, IN 46601.
