ELKHART, IN. -- Carmelene M. Noffsinger, 90, of Elkhart, passed away on Thursday, February 25, 2021 at Woodland Manor. Carmelene was born on January 4, 1931 in Elkhart, IN to the late, Dominic and Dorothy (Robison) Ambrose. Carmelene married the love of her life, James Noffsinger on September 2, 1950 in St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. She is preceded in death by her parents, Dominic and Dorothy; grandson, Erich Grimske; brothers, Pat and Mike Ambrose and sisters, Josephine Williams and Betty Shattuck. Carmelene is survived by her husband of 70 years, Jim; daughters, Robin Wesaw of South Bend, Nikki Grimske and Michele Flager, both of Elkhart; 7 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren; brother, Nick (Elaine) Ambrose and sister, Carolyn White. Carmelene graduated from Elkhart High School in 1948. She was a longtime parishioner and Eucharistic minister of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. Carmelene was a volunteer with the Rosary Society, U.T.C. and Youth Group. She was also a Girl Scout and Brownie Leader. Carmelene and her husband, Jim, were once employed together at the Elkhart Camera Center and were both avid Chicago Cubs fans. She enjoyed playing co-ed softball and bowling. Carmelene could also be found frequenting garage sales in the area. Carmelene was a caring person whom loved to laugh. She will be remembered as being “quiet and mighty”. Cremation has taken place and a memorial Mass will be held at a later date. Memorial Contributions may be directed to Cancer Resources of Elkhart County, 23971 US 33, Elkhart, IN 46517.

Noffsingers celebrate 70 years

ELKHART - James and Carmelene (Ambrose) Noffsinger are celebrating 70 years of marriage. Jim and Carme were married at St. Vincent De Paul Rectory on Sept. 2, 1950. Their life together started with their honeymoon at a Chicago Cubs game in Chicago, which they continued as lifelong Cubs fans. They met while both were working at Plumrose Packing Plant. Shortly after they were married Jim was drafted into the Army. Upon his return to Elkhart, he worked at the Elkhart Camera Center. Carme joined him after raising their three daughters. They worked together until their retirement. They were very active at St. Vincent Church and School serving lunch to students. They have three daughters, Robin Wesaw of South Bend, and Nikki Grimske and Michele Flager, both of Elkhart. They have eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. They reside together at The New Woodland Manor on Nappanee Street in Elkhart.
