OSCEOLA - Olga Csapo, 85, of Osceola, passed away at 2:10 p.m. Thursday, December 11, 2008, in the Caring Junction Nursing Home, Mishawaka. Olga was a lifelong resident of St. Joseph County, except for a short stint in Chicago as a sales representative. She was born in South Bend and at age three, the family moved to the Osceola Farm, where she assisted in its operation, tending to livestock, including chickens, cows, pigs, and even draft horses, Dolly and Ruby. Her
passion was gardening to which she assiduously attended. During WWII she worked at Bendix Corp. building carburetors for aircraft used in the war. She truly was "Rosie the Riveter" as she worked seven days a week in this job on the home front and her efforts and those of thousands of women throughout the U.S.A. provided the means for soldiers to win the greatest war in history, thus assuring the survival of this country and the world's free societies. Not a minor undertaking! She was a good and generous person in life, contributing to various charitable causes. She was very supportive of her immediate family. All in all, a very nice person to get to know. While her brother, Geza, was fighting in the war in Europe, she kept up correspondence from home. Each letter was a bright moment for the soldier. And she kept intact all the letters her brother sent home, all of which will go into the historical archives of WWII. She is survived by her loving brother, Geza of Osceola; nieces, Shari of Stevensville, MI, and Suzanne of Wichita, TX; and a nephew, Tibor of St. Joseph, MI. She was a member of Memorial Presbyterian Church, South Bend. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, December 19, 2008, in Chapel Hill Funeral Home, with one hour of visitation prior to the service. Rev. Ted Lester will officiate and burial will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola. Her brother requests that memorial donations be made to Memorial Presbyterian Church, 1836 Portage Avenue, South Bend, IN 46616; or to the Faith Mission for the Homeless in Elkhart.
