Josephine Lakovits

SOUTH BEND - Josephine Lakovits, 96, passed away at 2:35 pm Wednesday, November 27, 2013, in the Sanctuary at Holy Cross. Josephine was born on March 18, 1917, in South Bend, to Nicholas and Mary (Vertichs) Nemeth. She retired from Curtis Products in 1982 where she was employed for 17 years. She was a member of Our Lady of Hungary Church and the former St. Anthony Society Ladies Auxiliary. Jo enjoyed bowling and bingo. She also enjoyed reading and watching the Chicago Bulls. On June 21, 1941, in South Bend, she married Carl Lakovits. He died on June 11, 1966. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Ann Woods; three sisters, Elsie Chevrie, Mary Nemeth, and Ann Sigsby; and a brother, Frank Nemeth. Surviving are two sons, Carl (Robin) Lakovits of Granger and Joseph M. Lakovits of Glenview, IL; 5 granddaughters, Kim (Tom) Warner, Kelly (Dave) Patrick, Kristine (Jeff) Brady, Tara (Chris) Lakovits-Robb and Mandy (Dave) Lakovits-Black; and seven great-grandchildren, Scott and Emily Warner, Katelyn Patrick, Andrew and Madison Brady, and Savana and Lexie Robb. Special thanks to her niece, Patty Wargo, for her help and compassion. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 am Tuesday, December 3, 2013, in Our Lady of Hungary Church. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery. Family and friends may call from 3-7 Monday in the Zahoran Funeral Home, 1826 South Kemble Avenue. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Center for Hospice.
