Kenneth R. Muncy, age 84 of Bremen, IN, died at 6:10 pm on Monday, March 13, 2023 at his residence after an extended illness. He was born on March 1, 1939 in South Bend, IN to Estil and Marie (Voirin) Muncy. Ken lived his entire life in the Bremen area and was a 1958 graduate of Bremen High School where he was a three sport athlete, participating in football, basketball and track. He scored the first touchdown in Bremen Football history and coined the phrase “The Long Green Line” that is still used by the program today. Ken was a U.S. Army Veteran and served at the Red Stone Arsenal in Huntsville, AL. On September 6, 1959 Ken married Charlene D. Grossman at Grace United Methodist Church in Bremen. She preceded him in death after almost 53 years of marriage on June 3, 2012. Ken later married Donna Hundt on August 16, 2016 and she preceded him in death on January 1, 2021. For many years, Ken attended the First United Church of Christ in Bremen before more recently attending Bremen Church of the Brethren. Ken worked for many years with his brother Art at Art’s Gas for Less in Bremen, before moving on to work for Russ Upson’s International Harvester in Elkhart, IN. He later worked for Mishler Funeral Home in Bremen and started the Emergency Medical Service in Bremen, where he served as the Director of EMS for many years. He was a former member of the Bremen Jay Cee’s and was the founding member of the Bremen Optimists Club. Ken was an active member of the Bremen American Legion Post #191 and VFW post #8972. He loved his time in Ft. Myer’s Beach and looked forward to his trips to Florida. In his free time, Ken enjoyed collecting antiques, especially antique toys. He was an avid Bremen Sports Fan and loved his Bremen Lions. He was also a big fan of Purdue University and supporter of Purdue Athletics. Surviving are his 2 children, Susan (Tim) Montague of Bremen and Scott (Lisa) Muncy of Lafayette, IN; 6 grandchildren: Matt (Maddie) Muncy of Lafayette, Megan (Bryan) Craig of Lafayette, Lindsey (Joseph) McCombs of South Bend, IN, Craig (Iliana) Allen of South Bend, IN, Garrett (Olivia) Allen of Indianapolis, and Logan Montague of Mishawaka; 1 great grand daughter Maicen Muncy; a sister, Shirley Boone of Rochester; and a sister-in-law, Barbara Muncy of Bloomington, IN. Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents; wife of 52 years, Charlene Muncy; 2nd wife, Donna Muncy; grandson, Lance Montague; and a brother, Art Muncy. Visitation will be held from 9-11 am on Saturday, March 18, 2023 at Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder Funeral Home, Nappanee, IN, with a funeral service starting at 11 am. Burial will follow in Bremen Cemetery with Military Rites. The family would like to give a special thank you to Dr. Michael McClaid for his friendship and loving service. Memorial Contributions in Ken’s name can be given to The Center for Hospice Care, Mishawaka.
