MILL CREEK - Mr. Louis W. Szilagyi, 86, of Mill Creek, IN, died at 8:04 PM on October 4, 2008, in LaPorte Hospital. Mr. Szilagyi was born January 13, 1922, in Mill Creek, IN, to Andrew and Rose (Parrog) Szilagyi. On July 27, 1946, in South Bend, Indiana, he married Helen Rzepka, who survives. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He was a self-employed farmer and worked for the LaPorte School Corporation for 27 years (18 as a bus driver and nine as a custodian/mechanic). Mr. Szilagyi was a Mill Creek High School graduate, a Crumstown Conservation member and a good, loving, hard-working family man. He leaves behind his wife, Helen Szilagyi of Mill Creek, IN; two daughters, Linda (Paul) Rymer and Dorie (Neil) Lauver, both of Mill Creek, IN; a son, Daniel (Diane) Szilagyi of LaPorte, IN; eight grandchildren, Brian, Bradley and Kimberly Rymer, Renee and Ashley Lauver, Scott and Breanna Szilagyi, and Tami Gonzalez; three great-grandchildren; a sister, Julia Freeland of LaPorte, IN; a brother, Lawrence Szilagyi of New Carlisle, IN; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Irma Ott and Mary Smith, and three brothers, Andrew, Andrew J. and Elmer Szilagyi. A funeral Mass will be held Wednesday, October 8, 2008, at 10 A.M. in Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with Rev. Ian Williams officiating. A prayer service will be held today, October 7, at 5 P.M. Visitation will be held today, October 7, from 2 to 8 P.M., and on Wednesday from 8 to 9:30 A.M. in the Essling Funeral Home. Burial will be at Oak Grove Cemetery on Wednesday following the service. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor's choice. Arrangements are being handled by Essling Funeral Home.
