SOUTH BEND - John J. Nemeth, 79, passed away Sunday, March 18, 2018 in Memorial Hospital. John was born on May 1, 1938 in South Bend to Victor and Rose (Desich) Nemeth. He was employed at Bill's Body Shop, aka “Bill's Coffee Shop”, where he worked for his long time friend, Bill Strantz. John was a lifelong member of Our Lady of Hungary Church; he served in the United States Air Force, enjoying especially his time in Alaska; he was a member of the Studebaker Driver's Club and a local postcard club. He was a Boy Scout Leader of Troop #366, loved St. Joseph County history, bluegrass and classic country music, nature, and his family and many friends. He was the best big brother and uncle ever. John had a huge interest and vast knowledge in many areas. Surviving are a sister, Rosemary (Steve) Andert of South Bend; brother, Victor (Celine) Nemeth of Vermillion, OH; nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, Stephen J. (Brenda, Jerry, John) Andert, Janice Andert (Liz, Jeff, Mike Smith), Pam (Tasos) Anastasiou, Chris Andert, Edward (Erica, Evan, Haley) Andert, and Rosanne Andert. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:00 pm Friday, March 23, 2018 in Our Lady of Hungary Church. Burial with military services will follow in Riverview Cemetery. Family and friends may gather from 4-8 Thursday in the Zahoran Funeral Home, 1826 Kemble Avenue, where a Rosary will be recited at 4:30 pm.
