[N34460] Thomas John Petsche
December 31, 1958 - February 15, 2023

Thomas John Petsche of South Bend, Indiana passed away on February 15, 2023. He was 64 years old. Tom is survived by his daughter Stephanie (Stephen) McNamara of South Bend; his devoted and beloved friend, LuAnn Shaffer of Mishawaka; his brothers: Kevin Petsche (Richard Goehring) of Indianapolis; David Petsche (Jennifer) of Granger; and sister Kathleen Petsche (Peter Kavanaugh) of Oak Park, Il. He was the uncle to Matthew (Katrina) Petsche of Indianapolis, Andrew Petsche of Chicago, Il, Anna Petsche of West Lafayette, IN and Evan Kavanaugh of Cincinnati, OH. He was preceded in death by his parents Frank J. Petsche in 2004 and Suzanne M. Petsche in 2019. Tom was born on December 31, 1958 in Toledo, Ohio. After the family moved to South Bend in 1965, he attended Christ the King grade school where he won a city wide math contest in junior high. He graduated from St. Joseph’s High School in 1977 and from Indiana University in 1981 with a BA in Political Science and in 1983 with an AD in Computer Science. He spent his career as a Software Engineer providing support for Financial Services Companies including Citibank, The Associates and CV Systems. Tom was an avid sports fan and a fierce competitor. He loved IU basketball and held season tickets for IU football for decades as he patiently (or not) waited for the Hoosiers to win the next big game. He was often in attendance at the Indianapolis Colts games even making it 1 week after hip replacement surgery. Tom not only watched sports but participated for many years. He played youth baseball, high school football, adult softball and bowled in leagues around the South Bend area. His greatest passion was for golf. A life long golfer, Tom played every Tuesday night with friends and made a yearly golf outing to Mississippi which he rarely missed. Tom had a generous spirit, would always greet you with a handshake, a hearty hug and a big grin. We all looked forward to him bringing copious quantities of scratch-off lottery tickets to the family Christmas gathering. He shared his good fortune. He was always up for paying for the meal, buying rounds in his favorite tavern, bringing a large selection of wines for dinner or just giving his niece and nephews cash when needed. He will be missed by all who know and love him. Services will be held on Saturday February 25, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. at Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, Indiana 46628. Interment will follow at Cedar Grove Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 10 am - 1 pm Saturday in the funeral home.
