SOUTH BEND - John W. Karkiewicz, 75, passed away Wednesday in his residence. Survivors include his wife, Patricia A.; daughter, Kimberly Karkiewicz of South Bend; sons, Jeffrey (Betty) Karkiewicz of South Bend and Bryan Karkiewicz. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, in Our Lady of Hungary Church. Burial will follow in Riverview Cemetery. Family and friends may call from 2-7 Sunday in the Zahoran Funeral Home, 1826 Kemble Avenue where a rosary will be recited at 3 p.m.

SOUTH BEND - John W. Karkiewicz, 75, passed away at 10:10 p.m. Wednesday, February 16, 2011 in his residence. John was born on October 17, 1935 in South Bend to John and Stella (Osienska) Karkiewicz. He retired from Uniroyal in 1990 after 36 years of service. John also was employed by the University of Notre Dame in the Hesburgh Library for 10 years, and was a football usher for 30 years and basketball usher for 25 years. He also was an Assistant District Rep, Tri-Valley Council for the Boy Scouts of America On April 28, 1956 in South Bend he married the former Patricia A. Jurkaites, who survives along with a daughter Kimberly Karkiewicz of South Bend; two sons Jeffrey (Betty) Karkiewicz of South Bend and Bryan Karkiewicz; 8 grandchildren Nydia, Jonathon, Joseph, Timothy, Jason, Autumn, Eric, and Brian; and 3 great-grandchildren Wesley, Jessica, and Leena. John was preceded in death by 3 sisters Anna Karkiewicz, Regina Karkiewicz and Alfreda Karkiewicz and 3 brothers Leo Karkiewicz, Benjamin Karkiewicz and Edward Karkiewicz. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, February 21, 2011 in Our Lady of Hungary Church. Burial will follow in Riverview Cemetery. Family and friends may call from 2-7 Sunday in the Zahoran Funeral Home, 1826 Kemble Avenue where a rosary will be recited at 3 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Our Lady of Hungary Church, Center for Hospice Care, or the American Cancer Society .
